How to Stay Positive During Pregnancy

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Pregnancy is an exciting and emotional time, but it can also bring feelings of stress and anxiety. After hitting 30 weeks almost a full week ago and in my third trimester, I have felt a new wave of emotions that I have never felt before. And as described by my doctor, they can feel uncontrollable. If you are feeling this way, you are not alone sister! When I brought this up to my doctor today she said around this time in pregnancy this is normal! Staying positive during pregnancy has numerous benefits, not just for you but also for your growing baby. It might take a little extra effort, but here are some things that I am going to try to boost my positivity.

Here are a few tips that can help you stay positive throughout your pregnancy:

  1. Surround yourself with positive people: Seek support from loved ones who uplift and encourage you. Surrounding yourself with positive people can help you stay in a good mood and prevent negative thoughts from creeping in.

  2. Practice self-care: Take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Get plenty of rest, eat a healthy diet, and engage in physical activity to keep yourself healthy. Additionally, spend time on hobbies and activities you enjoy to help keep your mood lifted.

  3. Step Outside: Take 10 minutes a day to step outside and get some sunshine on your body! Right now it is extremely cold but I am going to do just that, even for just a few minutes a day.

  4. Prioritize Sleep: My doctor said this exactly. She said to make sleep a priority to help with my mood. I feel like I already get a decent nights sleep, getting to bed around 11pm every day waking up around 7am. But I am going to try to add a couple more hours each night.

  5. Stay informed: Know what to expect during pregnancy and understand the changes happening in your body. This will help you feel more in control and reduce any anxieties you may have.

  6. Practice mindfulness: Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breathing and calm your mind. Mindfulness practices such as meditation and yoga can help you stay centered and reduce stress.

  7. Get organized: Plan and organize your time, so you have plenty of time to relax and do the things you enjoy. This can help reduce stress and keep you in a positive mindset.

  8. Connect with other pregnant women: Joining a support group or connecting with other women who are also pregnant can provide comfort and help you feel less isolated.

  9. My doctor also recommended a couple extra vitamins every day that could help boost my mood, but please consult your doctor for any medicines or vitamins you take.

Remember, staying positive during pregnancy is important for both you and your baby. Incorporating these tips into your daily routine can help you maintain a positive outlook and enjoy this special time. Every day looks different in pregnancy, so take it one day at a time! You've got this mama!
