Cinnamon Sugar Bunny Twists with Homemade Farmers Direct Whole White Wheat Flour Crust

Spring is in the air, and with Easter just around the corner, it's the perfect time to whip up some delightful treats that are not only delicious but also carry a touch of homemade goodness. Today, I'm excited to share with you my take on a fun and easy Easter treat that's sure to bring smiles to your loved ones' faces: Wholesome Cinnamon Sugar Bunny Twists with a homemade pie crust.

Ingredients for the Whole Wheat Pie Crust:

  • 2 and 1/2 cups Farmers Direct Whole White Wheat Flour, plus extra for rolling out dough

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, for a slightly sweet crust)

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

  • 1/2 cup ice water

For the Bunny Twists:

  • Homemade pie crust dough made with Farmers Direct Whole White Wheat Flour

  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter

  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon

  • 2 tablespoons of sugar

  • White frosting for the bunny tails

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pie Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar (if using). Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until the dough comes together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 2 hours.

  2. Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/8 inch thick.

  3. Butter and Season: Brush melted butter over the dough and sprinkle evenly with cinnamon and sugar.

  4. Add a Sweet Touch: Spread a thin layer of strawberry jam over the dough.

  5. Shape Your Bunnies: Cut the dough into strips and twist them into bunny shapes.

  6. Bake to Perfection: Bake at 400°F for about 17 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. Add the Finishing Touches: Once cooled, add a dollop of white frosting to create fluffy tails.

These bunny twists are not only adorable but also have a wonderful balance of sweetness from the strawberry jam and a slight spice from the cinnamon. They're perfect for an Easter brunch or as a fun activity to do with the kids.

I love this fun recipe so much! I hope you do too!
